Ryan’s Classics – Miner 2049er (Atari 5200)

My first real video game system was an Atari 5200.  It had belonged to my parents and they passed it down to me before we ended up getting an NES.  One game that I distinctly remember, because of it’s bright red cartridge, was Miner 2049er.

Bounty Bob is a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on a mission to search through all of Nuclear Ned's abandoned uranium mines for the treacherous Yukon Yohan.  Bounty Bob must claim each section in order to advance to the next level.  This is accomplished by walking over every inch of platform.  There are 10 levels that each introduce a new obstacle such as slides, lifts, or cannons.

I haven’t played the game in many years, and there is a good reason why.  The game is just not that fun to play.  It may be because the 5200’s controller were awful and practically not usable.  The game does seem more interesting to me now that I am older and wiser.  If you can find the game on the 2600 or even the 2007 remake for mobile devices, play those versions over this one.

Original Score – 4 out of 10
