Now that E3 is over (and has been for a few days). I've ranted and/or raved about upcoming games for the PS3/360 to the point of finally being able to calm down and take a step back to really look at what is going to be released for the consoles. There are many that I am really excited for on the PS3, but there isn't as much on the 360. As I re-reviewed the upcoming list for Xbox I started to become concerned. Why you ask? Because over 30 of them are either Kinect compatible or required games!
I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all, just stressing concern over this trend of motion controlled gaming. Yes, I do have a Kinect and I am excited for voice command for ME3. I'm also interested in trying out Ghost Recon's use of motion control in Future Soldier (there are more, but for the sake of staying on topic). I feel there is way too much of a spotlight being set upon this technology. It's good that Microsoft is planning many more games to release for the Kinect this year (Neither Mass Effect or Ghost Recon being on that list) since too many people complained about not having much of a selection last year. But how long will this trend last until it becomes old news? It does seem that console to handheld gaming and linking handheld to console co-op are going to be the next big thing already. Let me know your thoughts!

The thing that I always think of too is that we had the voice commands in Rainbow Six Vegas already, and that only required a $20 mic. Maybe it's not powerful enough to get sentences down or something I dunno.
ReplyDeleteMicrosoft has MILLIONS invested in the Kinect, and they won't be sweeping it under the rug anytime soon. As long as Kinect control is an option, I'm cool with it. The options for ME3 do have me excited!
ReplyDeleteBasically, what Microsoft said to me was "You don't have a Kinect, you suck. Go buy one."
