Doug's Personal GOTY Choices

Here we are, another year and another huge amount of video games. I've tried my best to compile my favorite games this year into a small number of 10. This was NOT easy, and took a lot of consideration for each title.

Aaaaaaaand here we goooo!

10 - Kirby's Return to Dreamland

I had a blast playing this game with friends. Simple Kirby platforming at it's finest. A fun game from beginning to end. When I want a good platformer, I know where to go. And that's on the Wii.

9 - Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

This game plays like how any Vs game by Capcom should. Extremely fluid and fast. It's gorgeous and an absolute blast to play. Especially with friends. Best fighting game I have played this year easily.

8 - Halo Anniversary

Yeah yeah. Whatever, shut up. "Doug! This game came out 10 years ago!" So? This remake is awesome and the game STILL holds up and is still just as fun as it was 10 years ago. The new graphics and the little additions they did are great and definitely worth checking out even for nostalgia sake.

7 - Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection

Yep, another HD facelift game on my list. This is an awesome package of some of the best games around. You get MGS 2, 3 and PW! They look gorgeous and sound wonderful. I still have just as much fun messing with guards now then what I did before.

6 - Battlefield 3

This game is stunning. When I first played it on PC I was blown away with how good it looked. The campaign was a blast (Best since CoD4, I would say) and the multiplayer is the best I have played all year. A solid shooter all the way around.

5 - Skyrim

Granted, this game hasn't grabbed my attention that it deserves quite yet but the scope of this game is incredible. I feel overwhelmed by all the different things you can do, I just don't know where to start. It's easily the best RPG I have played in a long time.

4 - Dead Space 2

A title most people forgot about, and that is a shame. Improved on everything from the first one while remaining close to the core gameplay. Scary, immersive, and gorgeous. Dead Space 2 did not disappoint.

3 - Gears of War 3

The BEST Gears campaign hands down. This game made me care about the characters much more than past Gears games and did a damn good job doing it. Multiplayer is blast whether you do competitive or co op. Gorgeous and a solid title, Gears of war 3 was an awesome way to end the trilogy.

2 - Portal 2

This was one of the first games to make me laugh out loud. Extremely clever and witty. The writing was top notch and the gameplay was challenging and fun. Co op with a friend was some of the best gaming moments of 2011 for me, personally. I loved Portal 2, but, damn it Valve! Where is my Half life 3!?

And number one is...

Uncharted 3.

Surprised? You shouldn't be. This game is INCREDIBLE. The graphics, storyline, writing, voice acting, set pieces, EVERYTHING was almost perfect. I feel it was overall improved from 2 and blasted 1 out of the water. No game this year made my jaw drop in awe and scream with excitement like Uncharted 3 did.

Congratulations, Uncharted 3. You win my praise.

Honorable mentions!

These are the titles I loved this year, but could not find a place for them in my top 10 list.

Batman Arkham City, LA Noire, Super Mario 3D Land, Skylanders, Motorstorm: Apocalypse and Mario Kart 7.

Whew. Bring it on 2012! (Come on Twisted Metal!)

  1. What!? No Duke Forever?

(Really, though, I don't blame you...)

  2. Ha, as I always say. Duke isn't a good game, but it's a fun one.
