In the age of Xbox Live and playing on the Playstation Network, I feel we have lost an essential part of playing games multiplayer. You can still talk trash and all that good stuff with your headset and all, but, you loose something when your just both sitting at separate homes. There is a sort of disconnect.
I for one miss couch Co-oP quite a bit. Playing a game with a group of friends in the same room is just great fun; even a LAN party with a few PCs is fantastic - calling out things to each other and lookin' around at stuff, it's great! I will always remember playing Rainbow Six 3 with 5 other buddies setting up tactics and mowin' down terrorists, games liked Scene It, Buzz and Mario Party - its fun!
It just seems that whenever you see a game now, the Co-oP is very gimped or you have to have 2 copies and play it online, and that really hurts playing a game Co-oP. Mercenaries 2 always made me sad because of that only being online Co-oP and so many racing games now don't do a split screen either. Most games don't even have anything outside of a singleplayer and some shooting online! It's crazy to me.
I just miss those days when you could hang out with a buddy and enjoy some gaming together with one copy of a game, on the same couch, having a good time.

I really miss it as well. One thing I love about the Left 4 Dead games is the Co-Op. The ability to sit in the same living room and annihilate hordes of zombies together, the screaming and shouting. Ah, good times.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely spot on, miss the old days on couch co-op.
