Video Game Soundtracks

Ah yes, the exciting background noise of many video games: The Soundtrack.

I'm one of those people who pay extreme attention to them, I'm a sucker for them. Some of my favorites included Super Mario RPG, Metal Gear Solid, Super Castlevania IV, Spyro the Dragon. etc. etc.

Notice anything? No? yes? Maaaaybe!? Well, they are all older style soundtracks. I think perhaps maybe the soundtracks for video games might getting weaker. That's not to say we haven't had some fantastic soundtracks this generation. Such as Killzone 3, Gears of War 2, Halo Reach, Enslaved, Portal 2, 3D Dot Game Heroes etc. etc.

I just feel like older generation of video games have much better music, it has a nice charm to it and developers really needed some catchy tunes to keep us into the game. Now we don't need it as much as sound has really advanced in video games lately. (Believe it or not, there wasn't always surround sound, shocker I know) Maybe I'm just getting old, but It just makes me sad to know the older generations of games have better music. Maybe I'm the only one who really cares?

Let me know in the comments.
