E3 Relevance

After this year's big Electronic Entertainment Expo, you keep hearing everyone discuss if the big show is relevant anymore.  We didn't get that much new content, the show was kinda boring, and Nintendo sure didn't use it to showcase all sorts of launch line-up software.

So, I think people are missing it here.

We are looking at an end of an era here.  The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are starting their way to the door, so of course we aren't going to get the big shabang you get when your in the middle of the consoles lifecycle.  I give props to Sony for keeping it strong with a few new IPs, and even Microsoft pumping in more features and functionality to their system.

With Nintendo, while yeah, EVERYONE wanted to see some amazing titles making you want that Wii-U, but the sad thing is, proving the concept of that system is what that show was all about to them.  The buzz starts going around about things like Wii Fit U and all that, and you start to get the mainstream buzz too.  So I think they take that stage as a conduit to casual consumer who wouldn't normally know of any of it.  That's not to say they shouldn't have made this their "re-capture the 'hardcore'" show.  Plus I think they put more effort in their non-E3 showings; the event on Sunday showing off the Miiverse, and their Day 3 3DS showcase.

I think we still got to see some cool stuff, and while it's not what we all wanted, I bet next year we get another one of the strong E3s.
