The 3DS XL hits very soon here; landing on the 19th, people will finalizing the decision - Should I upgrade? or Should I wait to get the XL instead.
I am happy with the current model, and with it not having the second circle pad, I think it breaks down to 4 basics in deciding.
1)The 90% more viewing area (obviously)
-I know many a people who were in love with the DSi XL because some feel the screen on a normal platform is too small and/or the larger viewing area is good for people with not so perfect eyesight. If you have ever felt at all that the 3DS could have a nicer screen, you should consider the XL. The larger screens show a little more pixilation, but not much, and the images look very nice and crisp on the bigger display
2)The longer battery
-Most people complained that the 3DS's battery was just awful; and even though you can get the extended battery from Nyko, it's a shame that you went form something like the Lite or DSi to this 3 hour battery (using all your features). With a few extra hours of gaming time on this big guy, it just may be worth it for a good set of you.
3)The Hinge
- Let's face it, the hinge on the 3DS is wobbly. After using my Lite for a bit lately, I really miss how sturdy that little device can be. The XL will have a strong click like the DSi XL, and also support the laptop style click, the typical play style click, and of course fully open flat click. With features like Netflix and using Augmented Reality, it's a sure-fire win on this one.
4)The Stylus
- I'm not a fan of that telescoping stylus. I not only have to pull it out with my nail, but then I also have to use my other hand to pull the stylus out to be comfortable. With the DS lite - DSi XL, the stylus was something simple to get out, and comfortable to hold. It's back on the side just like the lite, and I think is the same size as the XL stylus of the DSi.
So there ya have it. While I'll probably stick with my 3DS currently, if I did not have one already, I would more than likely snag up a 3DS XL. It's a little more sturdy, and a slight upgrade to the old model.
