More Silent Hill
Speaking of change and Silent Hill, I feel I must add my 8 bits. Those of you who are avid Silent Hill fans may have been hoping for an HD Collection (like me) and probably squeaked with excitement when it was officially announced at Comic Con this year (like me). But, as I agree with Eddie when it comes to change, it's not always good. Turns out there are some major legal issues between Konami and Guy Cihi (James Sunderland, SH2). To give you an idea of what's going on, Konami only paid Guy for the original release of Silent Hill 2 and ONE, count it, UNO, 1 re-release of the game. Because of this legal action taking place, Konami has firmly decided to replace Guy with a different voice actor; But apparently didn't think about the fact that Guy also owns rights to James' mocap, I mean they DID design James from Guy making statements like Guy being the perfect image of what James would look like. Below is the link to a video that explains it more in-depth with quotes from Guy himself.

Angry? Actually, I'm pretty pissed off at Konami. Guy deserves his pay day.
Sad? Well, yes... anyone have a Prozac?
Still gonna buy it? I will be fighting demons inside. Sadface.
One last thing before I let it be. I believe that for now on I will be keeping close watch on any other Konami games coming out, because this isn't the first time Konami has done something like this.
Comments or additional info is greatly appreciated

When I heard they were changing the voice acting for him, I hunted down SH2 Greatest hits for PS2 because I really like how this guy sounds. They're changing a lot more than just his voice, though. They're also doing it in Sh3! Rumor also has it they are changing the music. This I'm NOT into.
ReplyDeleteThey CANNOT change the music, Akira Yamaoka
ReplyDeleteis too great of a composer! Silent Hill is one of my favorite series ever since the first way back on the PS1 days :) Despite the changes and unfortunate events I'm very interested in playing the HD versions.
I agree with that statement 100%
ReplyDeleteHowever, Daniel Licht the guy who composes the music for Dexter is taking over and it doesn't sound too bad. I mean, it's not the same by any means but it's good.
I actually think overall change is nice, especially when it came to Shattered Memories. Developers need to take risks, but at the same time they need to keep the core values that make up that title to begin with. That's why I liked the guys article about SM. He was pointing out that people can't let go of nostalgia and let a genre grow because they keep wanting the same thing over and over. A drastic change isn't always good, but people need open minds to a series
